What is an e book?

An e book is an electronic version of a printed book that can be viewed online via any PC connected to the Internet. Georgian College subscribes to over 200 marine-related e books.

E books are a great resource for students who are studying to write a Transport Canada Marine Safety exam.

How do I gain access to Georgian College’s list of e books?

You must register as an e book account user to gain access to any Georgian College e book. Next, you will need to request a Georgian College Library card which will give you an access code, to gain access to the e book site.

How do I register for an e book account and what is the charge?

There is no charge for an e book account and it’s easy to register! Just call Kara at 1-888-812-7511 or contact Kara by email at kbeaubien@georgianc.on.ca

How do I request a Library card?

Library cards can be obtained from Cindy Watson at the Owen Sound Campus Library. Cindy’s number is 519-376-0840 Ext 2039 or you can reach her by email at cwatson@georgianc.on.ca

The library card will be active for one (1) month increments.

After you receive your library card, there will be a 13 digit identification number on the bottom of the card. You will need this number to access the e book site.

Steps to access the e book site from home:

1. Go to Georgian College’s main web site at www.georgianc.on.ca
2. Choose Current Student (located on the left hand column- first selection)
3. Under Services- choose Library Commons
4. Choose Subscription Databases A – Z
5. Select N (for Net Library)
6. Select Net Library
7. At this point, the system will request the 13 digit identification number located at the bottom of your library card
8. This will bring you to the Basic Search Page
9. Enter a keyword to search for the e book you are interested in. For example navigation or diesel engines
10. All e book titles will appear in order of publication, from newest to oldest
